What is Design Registration?
Design registration is specifically used by channel partners (distributors and manufacturer reps) of high-tech component and semiconductor manufacturers to register opportunities for designing their components into systems manufactured by an OEM. Distributor and manufacturer reps will work closely with the OEM to design the supplier’s components into systems manufactured by OEM. If the distributor and manufacturer reps succeed in the sales process and the OEM decides to use the supplier’s components, it is called a “Design Win”.
Collaborate on Partner Community Portal
Partners can collaborate with the supplier on design opportunities using the partner portal, get approvals on the initial request and deal registration renewals, provide updates, and monitor status.
Built on Salesforce Opportunity
Partners can use the Partner Community Portal to submit an opportunity for registration. Once approved by appropriate personnel of the supplier, the distributor gets an exclusive opportunity to work on the design win opportunity. Neither the supplier reps nor other partners are allowed to work on the design win opportunity. Partners are given a specific length of time to close the design win opportunity with appropriate resources allocated by the supplier.
Partner Reward for Design Win
For design wins, manufacturer reps are paid commissions when the distributor sells the components to the OEM or a contract manufacturer for the OEM. A design win can be converted into a commission split plan to pay commissions to the manufacturer reps who helped with the design win. Commissions are calculated and paid out based on the sales transactions reported by the distributor after the supplier sells the product through the distributor.
